Copycat Cracker Barrel Green Beans

I made these green beans for Thanksgiving and they were freaking delicious!  A good frugal side to any good meal.

3 cans cut green beans, with liquid
1/4 onion, diced
1/4 pound bacon, sliced into about 1 inch pieces
1 teaspoon sugar
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 to 1/2 teaspoon pepper

1. In a large saucepan, cook bacon until lightly browned, not crisp.  Cook onion along with the bacon.
2. Add the cans of green beans, sugar, salt, and pepper.  Mix well.
3. Cover pot with a lid and bring to a light boil.
4. Turn heat to low and simmer, with lid on, for 45 minutes.
